June 8th: Global Day of Remembrance for Victims of Foxconn

Imploring workers to cherish their lives

Demanding Foxconn to stop production and reform

Twelve workers have committed suicide as of May 27th at the production facilities of Foxconn Technology Group, a Taiwan-owned enterprise based in Shenzhen. Citizens of the world and members of non-governmental organizations implore workers of Foxconn to cherish their valuable lives, despite the urgent need to protest against their dire working conditions. Suicide should not be a means to protest the harsh management in the factories. We condemn Foxconn for not having even arranged any public vigils for the deceased workers and bereaved families and colleagues so far. To rub salt into the wound, the CEO of Foxconn Terry Gou asserted cynically that the victims committed suicide because of the company’s willingness to compensate their families generously. This heartless effort to blame the victims is a despicable attempt to deny responsibility. It is an insult to the dead and an absolutely deplorable affront to the public. Noting that Foxconn is a producer of iPhones, and that Apple is launching its 4th generation iPhones on June 8th (Hong Kong time), we have decided to make that date the Global Day of Remembrance for Victims of Foxconn. We call on citizens in Hong Kong, Mainland China, Taiwan and all over the world to join us in this commemoration of the workers.

SHUT DOWN THE G4S CHAMBERS

The integrated spectacle which incorporates the concentrated spectacle of fascism and the diffuse spectacle of liberalism is well exemplified by Group 4 Securicor. The death of Eliud Nguli Nyenze on 15th April 2010 at G4SA run Oakington Concentration Camp shows that the genocide that the British government presides over does not guarantee that the gas chambers of liberal capitalism are permanently off-shore - we already live in a state without borders because as human beings we are all and already capital.

We are gravely concerned by the content of your upcoming exhibition “Modern Times”. Judging from the promotional material that we have come across, the works selected are all “4 Dimensional” works – and as such are promoting Fascist and Nazist perspectives. Also, besides the uncritical exhibition of Fascist and Nazi material, the exhibition, in mixing 4D with revolutionary “n-dimensional” work, lumps together and thereby confuses works supporting and supported by the Fascists, Bolshevics (Futurism, Constructivism, Suprematism) as well as their contemporary counterparts such as the CIA (Abstract Expressionism) – with Revolutionary Communist work (Dada) whilst also pointedly excluding other Revolutionary Left and Anti-Bolshevik Communist work (Surrealism, Lettrism, Situationism) which would clarify political differences within Modernist Art.

As yet, the CWU and Royal Mail have reached an agreement that means that no further strike action is planned however we do predict possible action before the Winter Solstice, so are preparing for this.

The constitution of the IWW allows workers to self-define their mode of organising, whether that be on the basis of : job, industry or region. It further allows workers to be members of more than one Industrial Unijon and also join an IU even if they are no longer employed in that industry. As well as starting organisation from scratch in any region, job or industry which they identify themselves as being involved in and being unorganised. A writer, therefore may choose to organise in the Communications and Computer Workers Industrial Union 560 and/or Printing and Publishing House Workers Industrial Union 450 – or neither - s/he may, depending on the topic of her writing be in ANY Industrial Union. For example, if s/he is writing about Agricultural production, being employed by a firm involved in that industry, then s/he is also part of that industry and can organise with that IU.

The Second Temporary Art Strike Action Committee – Alytus Chapter (STASAC-Alytus) has called for an Art strike action against Vilnius becoming European Cultural Capital for 2009, calling for Sympathy Strikes all over the world to support The Strike activities in Lithuania during the whole year 2009.

While Capitalism crumbles as international labour continues its historical subordination of land and capital under its power, the bourgeois ruling class in London is defending imperial time via the Centenary of the proto-Fascist Futurist manifesto in another attempt to unify against Communism – from the government’s propaganda machine, through to avant-gardists, artists and of course, the so-called revolutionaries from the left and right of Capital.

POWER TO THE WORKERS

The strike actions by energy workers and nuclear power workers need our support. We congratulate these workers of Lincolnshire, Cumbria, Lancashire, Nottinghamshire and those in in Fife, Grangemouth, Redcar, Teeside and South Wales for their principled solidarity.

The government, the media and the far right - including the BNP and their front "British WildCats Strike Support Collective" - are all united on this in trying to portray the strike as being against foreign workers.

This is nonsense.
